MONKEY b. H, THOROUGHBRED, 1725
| Color: b
(GB)
Found in the GSB and ASB. Died in 1754 after siring 300 foals in the USA. Imported in 1747 by Nathaniel Harrison, Brandon, VA. He was owned at one time by Lord Londale. He was on the turf in England in 1732 thru 1735. The importation of English race horses to this side of the water commenced about the year 1750, and that being the middle of the last century it is easy to remember the date when the line was drawn between the old and the new elements appearing on the race course. The following six animals were brought over within a year or two of that date— Monkey, Traveller, Dabster, Childers, Badger, and Janus. A few others might be named, but some at least are mythical... Monkey was twenty-two years old when he came and did not live long. - The Horse of America by John H. Wallace If Wallace's reasearch into history is correct, and based off of accounts as far back as the time of Alexander, then there was no Arabian blood in Monkey, but rather Barb or Turk, and his dam would have been a mix of native English blood and Barb or Turk blood.
