11-4-0-1, $32,760 Blue Hen mare Although nothing special to look at, she was a stakes winner at ages 2 and 3, and her blood has transformed the breed through her grandsons Halo and Northern Dancer She was known for being high-strung and tended to pass it on; many of her descendants are notoriously temperamental An interesting point about Almahmoud is that many of her greatest descendants are inbred to her Her offspring crossed particularly well with descendants of Nearco Her first foal was Cosmah, by Cosmic Bomb. Cosmah, a stakes winner, was the dam of 4 stakes winners including Tosmah and Halo. She is also the dam of 6 producing daughters including Queen Sucree, dam of 4 stakes winners and 2 stakes producers; La Dame du Lac, dam of 4 stakes winners and one stakes producer; and Royal Match, dam of 2 stakes winners and one stakes producer. Certainly Almahmoud’s best-known daughter is Natalma (by Native Dancer), dam of the legendary Northern Dancer. No other stallion has had the influence on modern breeding that Northern Dancer had! Natalma also produced 3 other stakes winners and 5 producing daughters, including Northern Dancer’s only full sister Arctic Dancer, who is the dam of US and Canadian Champion La Prevoyante plus two more stakes producers. Another well known daughter of Natalma is Raise the Standard, dam of Coup de Folie, who has produced 4 stakes winners already. Almahmoud also produced Bubbling Beauty by Hasty Road, who is the dam of Arctic Tern (a good sire) and two stakes producers. Almahmoud also produced another stakes winner, Folk Dancer.
