MARVELS ANGEL blk. M, APPALOOSA, 1932
| Color: blk Height: blkt
ApHC F-4
Blanket & Near Leopard - black spots over body & hips b/b Claude Thompson, OR stud books describes this horse as white, black spots over body. Foal photos show she was born black with a large blanket from the withers with spots.
This is a gray gene masking the base color.

I have also seen pedigrees for Marvel's Angel F-4 that list her dam as “ ‘Lady’ grey horse, or ‘Lady’ (grey) or just ‘Lady’.”
John Baker opined that the greying gene in Thompson’s program did not come from Old Painter, but came from Lady Grey and her sire Atlantic, also said to be grey. Baker may have been correct that the greying gene came from Atlantic and Lady/Lady Grey/Lady (grey), but not correct in that they were TBs. But given the varying descriptions of Old Painter throughout the years, he too carried the greying gene from his ancestry.https://appaloosaterritory.com/Articles/opinions3.html
