RIDERS STREAK ch. M, QUARTER HORSE,
| Color: ch
unregistered QH mare with an ApHC ID number
Rider\'s Streak was an unregistered QH mare with an ApHC ID number. She was
an own daughter of the great foundation QH, King P-234. Her mother was a QH mare by the equally great Oklahoma Star P-6. King himself never produced any
Appaloosa foals. R\'s Streak was one of only a few King-bred mares to produce
any registered Appaloosa foals, and Peavy\'s Pistol may well have been the
only Appaloosa stallion to have King as his maternal grandsire. (have to
check that a little more closely)
Streak died in August of 1972.
Story about all this in ANews, August 1973, p. 9, written by Gene Carr.
Additional info on Streaks production record in Jan Haddles The Complete Appaloosa, p.296-7.
Note: Some of the early QHs used in Appaloosa breeding programs had both an
ID and Ap prefix; (Don\'t ask why...it\'s too complicated to explain here)
The Ap prefix might lead one to believe it\'s short for Appaloosa, but in point of fact, in early registration terminology, meant an unregistered
horse that could have been an Appaloosa OR a horse from another breed. The
same applies to horses with an ID prefix, although that prefix often meant a non-characteristic, Appaloosa-bred mare or stallion, that at the time, was not eligible for ApHC registration. Remember: there was a time where a non-characteristic horse, even if the product of an App X App breeding, was not regarded as an Appaloosa, and was in fact referred to in old rule books as a non-Appaloosa. The ID prefix was used to identify horses used in Appaloosa breeding programs but which were not eligible for registration as an Appaloosa. It was eventually replaced by the PC (pedigree certificate) prefix.
