Hank Springer riding Uhlan II in 1906.
An ideal Thoroughbred topcross: This 1906 photo shows Hank Springer of the CS ranch in New Mexico on the 20-year-old stallion Uhlan II. Anson and the Springers often traded horses. Uhlan II was chief sire at the CS, and because he is a distaff ancestor of the Old Joe son Little Joe Springer, his name shows up in the pedigrees of broodmares that Springer later sold to Dan Casement.
